THE POWER OF CENTER - 1999

The performance had as the protagonist the water fountain at the center of the San Juan city's main square. With it, it was pointed out, focused and problematized a point thematic and formally centered within the overall geographic province.

The work was the first of a series of personal works of public art that turned around the fusion of disciplines such as cartography, mathematics, architecture, landscape and urbanism; many of which come together in this public intervention adding interrelationships to the language of painting and sculpture, installation and drawing.

The choice of color had the intention to break the citizen habit of always seeing the colorless water of the fountain. Dyed water in this ephemeral action lasted 24 hours. Public participation occurred when passersby wrote on the floor with transparent water spontaneous statements describing how they were affected by the work. Writing quickly evaporated by the intense heat of December.
